North Metro Firefighters Raising Money for MDA Over Labor Day Weekend

Firefighter collecting money for MDA's Fill the Boot Campaign

This Labor Day weekend, members of North Metro Fire Rescue District and Local 2203 will be hitting the streets alongside more than 100,000 firefighters across the country to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).

Beyond what the firefighters collect, Raising Cane’s in Broomfield will donate 15% of sales over the weekend when people mention MDA when giving their order.

“We are grateful to serve such a generous community that supports this worthy cause,” said Kyle Petau, North Metro Fire engineer and MDA team leader. “The funding we provide MDA really does make a difference, whether it’s sending a kid to summer camp or bringing a new therapy to the clinic.”

Last year, North Metro Fire was one of the top fundraisers in the state, raising more than $66,000 for MDA. This year, they hope to break that record and raise over $70,000.

In between answering emergency calls, North Metro firefighters and staff will collect money on street corners throughout Broomfield and Northglenn beginning Friday, Aug. 30, through Monday, Sept. 2.

Crews and staff will collect at multiple locations, including:

  • 1st Avenue and Chase near Home Depot and McDonald’s
  • Flatiron Crossing Mall entrance
  • The Northglenn Marketplace on 104th Avenue
  • Webster Lake Promenade at 120th and Grant
  • Raising Cane’s parking lot at 121st Ave. and Vrain St.
  • 144th and Lowell Blvd.
  • Sheridan and Lowell Blvd.
  • King Soopers parking lot at 136th Ave. and Zuni

Anyone wishing to donate online may do so through North Metro Fire and Local 2203’s MDA fundraising page:

The Muscular Dystrophy Association covers 44 neuromuscular diseases that affect more than 1 million Americans. Fighting muscular diseases can be costly for both families and researchers investigating better treatments, so any size donation is a great help.
