New Engine Ceremony and Open House

Saturday, May 18, 2019

North Metro Fire Rescue District will retire two fire engines and welcome two new fire engines in a special ceremony on Saturday, May 18, at 11 a.m. at Station 61 at 1275 Midway Blvd. in Broomfield. The fire district is inviting the community to participate in the ceremony and to thank residents for their investment in public safety. As part of the ceremony, kids will get to assist with washing the wheels of the new engines, and the community will be invited to help push them into the station bay. Both activities are rooted in fire service tradition from when firefighters would have to wet down the wagon wheels of horse-drawn fire carriages to prevent the spokes from being damaged. Additionally, they would have to push the rigs back into the bay, since horses couldn’t back up the carriages. Following the ceremony, there will be an open house to see the engines and tour the station.
